Prasad forcibly takes Kundan with him to follow in his footsteps and forbids him from seeing the rest of the family. Prasad's son Shankar (Iftekhar) does not agree to such practices, opposes his father and decides to leave the village with his wife and their three children: Kundan ( Dilip Kumar), Yashoda and Gopal. Prasad, a devotee of the black goddess Kali and a thuggee, religiously follows a practice to murder wealthy travelers who stay in his pilgrim guesthouse and offers them as a sacrifice to Kali. īhavani Prasad ( Jayant) is a powerful Shakta priest at Kashi. The director Harnam Singh Rawail's son Rahul Rawail, who is also a director, paid a tribute to this film by titling one of his as Jeevan Ek Sanghursh (1990) starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Sunghursh was popularly mistaken to be a debut film of Sanjeev Kumar. Naushad and Badayuni had worked together on many films previously and were "the most sought after" composer-lyricist duo of the time in Bollywood. The music is by Naushad and lyrics for the songs are by Shakeel Badayuni. They had worked in several films which performed well commercially however, unlike their previous collaborations Sunghursh under-performed commercially and was declared "Below Average" at box-office. The film was the last one to see actors Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala working together. The film stars Dilip Kumar, Vyjayanthimala, Balraj Sahni, Sanjeev Kumar, Jayant, Deven Verma, Durga Khote and Iftekhar. It is based on a short story Layli Asmaner Ayna in Bengali language by Jnanpith Award-winning writer Mahasweta Devi, which presents a fictionalised account of vendetta within a thuggee cult in the holy Indian town of Varanasi. The film ends with Natasha's funeral, and Anjali in Vicky's arms.Sunghursh is a 1968 Indian Hindi film directed and produced by Harnam Singh Rawail. Vicky finds a note that she had written, saying that by sacrificing her life, she proved that she will always love him. She had killed herself before the two arrived. As they are apologizing for hurting her, they suddenly notice a gun in Natasha's hand and blood on her head. The two arrive and see Natasha sitting in a chair. When Anjali returns to Vicky, Natasha calls the couple to her home. Anjali admits that while she cannot kill others, she would kill herself for him. Natasha threatens Anjali, saying that she will go to any length for Vicky – even kill. The two women meet and Anjali gently explains that Vicky has always loved her and never Natasha. Anjali then insists on meeting with Natasha. Although hurt, she is not angry at him as he has punished himself enough. Overwhelmed with guilt, he confesses the truth to Anjali. Vicky realizes that Natasha's obsession of him has become dangerous. Natasha hires hitmen to plant a bomb in Vicky's car. Vicky later tells her to stay away from him. At the engagement party, Natasha, mad with jealousy, starts dancing barefoot on broken glass until she faints. Natasha discovers that Vicky and Anjali are engaged. Vicky proposes to Anajali and she accepts. Natasha then attempts suicide but Vicky rushes her to the hospital in time. An uncomfortable Vicky tells Natasha that their one night together was a mistake and that he only loves Anjali. He goes back to India, but Natasha accompanies him. Things heat up and Vicky and Natasha spend a passionate night together. Natasha invites Vicky to her home for her birthday. When Natasha's father died in a car accident, Natasha, with no one else to love, put all her love and devotion on Vicky aside, and has been alone ever since. Natasha's father had warned her that her love for Vicky can never be, as Vicky loved Anjali, but she refused to listen. Natasha knew Vicky in college and harboured a deep infatuation for him. Natasha helps Vicky become a star, however, Vicky is unaware of Natasha's hidden motives.
